Safety fences should be Standard equipment on every swimming pool, despite the fact that many people do not perceive the pool as a serious threat, it is indeed very common that serious accidents, and even many fatalities occur to young children and toddlers who until the age of 6 are virtually defenceless in case of falling in a swimming pool.
What is also unknown is that over 70% of the accidents happen in private swimming pools, very often with both parents present in the house, and that the child had been missing less than 5 minutes before he or she was found in the pool.
The importance of safety fences for pools is that they, provided they are adequately designed and installed, prevent access to the swimming pool.
Nevertheless, not any fence is a safe pool fence. In order to prevent active children to climb or open it, its design must incorporate a number of features that include a pool gate that no only cant be opened by children but that it may not be inadvertently be left ajar and LOOK closed from a distance. It also needs to have no hand or foot holds that help the children climb it or openings that allow them to cross it.
